One of the most common “clean eating” tactics is to swap white rice for brown – but is there a difference?⠀

One the face of it – not really. Only about 20 calories and not much by way of protein, carbs and fats. So why does everyone jump on the brown rice bandwagon?⠀

Well, brown rice has a higher fibre content (1.8g vs 0.4g) and a lower GI. The lower GI means it’s slower to raise your blood sugar levels than white rice. The higher fibre content means it digests more slowly, meaning you should feel fuller for longer.⠀

So which is best? Well really it’s whichever you want. While the higher fibre content can be beneficial to weight loss in that it keeps you fuller for longer, the flip of that is that some people can feel sluggish afterwards. Some people prefer the taste and texture of white, some prefer brown. The best option for you is the one you enjoy eating.⠀

Personally I prefer white rice because it’s cheaper -and I don’t feel as heavy afterwards, but it really does come down to your own personal preference. Both are great carb sources and really versatile for meals!⠀

?Which do you prefer? ?⠀
