Due to the large amount of sitting we do in our daily lives, the way we stand has been affected negatively. Most people stand with their core and glutes disengaged, which can lead to back and knee pain. Next time you find yourself standing, do the following:⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1.) Screw your feet into the ground.⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Point your feet forward. Grip the floor with your feet, and apply outward pressure, as if you’re trying to twist the floor underneath you. Your feet aren’t actually moving, however, you should feel your knees push outward, and your glutes tighten.⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2.) Squeeze your butt.⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Clench your buttcheeks together. Combined with step 1, you’ll immediately feel your lower body aligned in a strong stance. You now have activated your glutes to help you stand upright.⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
3.) Tighten your core.⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Take a deep breath, blow out all your air, and tighten your core, as if you were bracing yourself to take a punch to the gut. This places your spine and ribcage in optimal alignment.⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
4.) Puff out your chest and rotate your shoulders back.⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A lot of people suffer from forward shoulders and tight chest muscles, which leads to the slumped over look. Puff your chest out and reset your shoulders to combat that tendency to slump forward.⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
5.) Tuck chin in, and shift head backward.⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Many people walk around with their head jutted forward, leading to neck pain. Restore proper alignment by resetting your head position.⠀
