??‍♀️Here’s a tasty and protein-packed oil free recipe, perfect for pastas, dips or spread on a slice of toast!

?I prefer cooking plant-based recipes without oil when I can. My decision to go oil-free in the majority of my cooking was after reading recommendations by some of my favorite plant-based physicians – namely @michaelgregermd and @joelfuhrmanmd.

?‍?The following is from Dr. Fuhrman’s website and drives home the point of why avoiding oils could be a decision for your health: “Olive oil is not a whole food – it is a fattening, low-nutrient, processed food, consisting of 100% fat. One tablespoon has 120 calories, as do all oils. One-quarter cup has 500 calories. When fats are ingested in the form of extracted oils, they are rapidly and efficiently absorbed by the body and converted into body fat. If these fats were ingested from whole foods, such as seeds, nuts and avocados, absorption would be much slower, over hours, not minutes. These fats would be mostly burned for our energy, not stored.”

Personally, I choose not to cook with added oil, but don’t worry about it too much when I’m out to eat, which can be near impossible to avoid.
