Fluctuating blood pressure can not only be tricky to deal with but might also lead to more serious complications. While a proper diet, healthy lifestyle activities and cutting on smoking and alcohol can help in keeping a check on high blood pressure in the long term, there are several natural home remedies which can provide immense benefits in just a short span of time. Here are some easy-to-do home remedies you can include in your diet, if you are dealing with the issue of high blood pressure.
Packed with heart-friendly fibres, coriander is an amazing herb for lowering hypertension. Just take some coriander leaves and chew them on an empty stomach. Studies have claimed that constituents from coriander interact with calcium ions and acetylcholine, which helps relax tension in the blood vessels. Coriander also flushes out excess sodium from the body which lowers BP.
Apple cider vinegar is an amazing drink for bringing down high blood pressure naturally. Just add 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar to a glass of lukewarm water and drink it in the morning on an empty stomach. Make sure you do not drink this if you are already taking medicines for high blood pressure. You can also consult your doctor for the same. Avoid drinking in the morning if you suffer from the problem of acidity.
Cinnamon is a strong flavouring spice which can add a special taste and fragrance to any dish. You can either use cinnamon sticks in your curries or consume it in the powdered form. Just mix half teaspoon of cinnamon powder and one teaspoon honey in half glass water and drink it. According to a paper published by the US National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health, eating cinnamon helped in reducing systolic blood pressure by 5.39 mm.
Several studies have proved that intake of raw garlic daily can help in keeping a check on blood pressure. If you are dealing with high blood pressure issues, all you need to do is make this simple drink for yourself. Take 3-4 garlic cloves and crush them a bit. Mix them in a glass of hot water along with 1 tablespoon of honey. Mix everything and drink it. The taste of garlic may seem overwhelming which is why a combination of honey and water is helpful.
The presence of quercetin in onions is what makes them a wonder veggie for high blood pressure patients. Quercetin prevents constriction of blood vessels which maintains a smooth flow of blood. A study in 70 overweight people with high blood pressure found that a dose of 162 mg per day of onion extract significantly reduced systolic blood pressure by 3–6 mmHg. You can easily include raw onion in your diet by making it a part of your salad.
Disclaimer: Keep monitoring your blood pressure regularly and do not stop having medication suggested by the doctor.
