How We Ranked
Not all UTI and bladder control supplements work as advertised. We sorted through the marketing to reveal the true power of the world’s most popular UTI and bladder control supplements. Here are the ranking factors we used to do it.
Science-Backed Ingredients: Some ingredients are genuinely proven to support bladder health and bladder control. Others have been shown to help your body cleanse the bacteria associated with a urinary tract infection. Some support immunity, while others help your urinary tract at a cellular level. The more science-backed ingredients a UTI and bladder control supplement used, the higher we ranked it.
Clinically-Proven Dosages: Some UTI and bladder control supplements contain the right ingredients at the wrong dosages. They use smaller dosages than most studies, for example, or hide small dosages within proprietary formulas. We preferred supplements that used clinically-proven dosages of each active ingredient.
Moneyback Guarantee: If a UTI or bladder control supplement does not help your problem, then you should be able to request a refund. We preferred supplements that had a generous and lengthy refund policy – like 60 to 90 days or longer. A long refund policy means the company stands behind its products and is confident they work as advertised.
Ease of Use, Taste, and Texture: Some UTI and bladder control supplements are unpleasant to take. They’re foul-tasting powders or ridiculously large capsules that are difficult to swallow. We preferred UTI and bladder control supplements that were easy for anyone to take.
Doctor Formulated: Some doctors create effective UTI and bladder control supplements. We prefer these supplements over competing formulas. When a doctor has formulated a supplement or approved its use, it gives the supplement an extra layer of legitimacy. We liked supplement companies that had a medical advisory board, medical doctor, or certified dietician on staff.
Price & Value: You shouldn’t need to spend a fortune to stop your UTI and bladder control issues. If you’re spending a premium on a supplement, you should expect premium ingredients. If you’re buying a budget formula, then you shouldn’t need to compromise on quality. We preferred UTI and bladder control supplements that offered good value whatever their price was.
Advertised Benefits: Per FDA regulations, UTI and bladder control supplements cannot claim to cure, treat, or prevent a disease. However, some companies suggest their supplements can achieve these benefits. We were wary of UTI and bladder control supplements with dishonest advertised benefits, exaggerated claims, or other misleading marketing.
Manufacturer Reputation & Transparency: Some UTI and bladder control supplement companies have been making effective supplements for 20+ years. Others are new to the scene. We weren’t automatically biased in favor of new companies, but we did prefer supplement manufacturers with a proven reputation for creating quality products.
What Do UTI and Bladder Control Supplements Do?
UTI and bladder control supplements work in different ways to target different benefits. Most supplements offer one or more of the following benefits:
- End nagging urges to go to the bathroom
- Eliminate the annoying dribble and diminish embarrassing leaks
- Strengthen your bladder
- Sleep through the night without interruptions
- Reduce bathroom visits
- Cleanse your urinary tract and bladder and support urinary tract health
- Some supplements are also specifically designed to support vaginal health or prostate health.
Top 10 Natural Solutions for Bladder Control Issues
A combination of bladder control supplements and natural strategies could help with your bladder control issues.
Some of the best natural solutions for bladder control issues include:
Perform Daily Pelvic Floor Exercises: Pelvic floor exercises can reduce leaks when performed properly. Studies show that doing pelvic floor exercises for three months could lead to noticeable benefits.
Stop Smoking: Smoking reduces bladder control because coughing strains your pelvic floor muscles. If you’re already prone to bladder control issues, then smoking could make it worse.
Exercise the Right Way: Beyond pelvic floor exercises, you should exercise the right way during ordinary workouts. High-impact exercises and sit-ups put pressure on your pelvic floor and muscles and can increase leaks. Replace high-impact exercises with jogging and aerobics, for example.
Avoid Heavy Lifting (Or Lift Correctly): Heavy lifting strains your pelvic floor muscles, increasing the chances of a leak. You can avoid heavy lifting. Or, you can tighten your pelvic floor muscles before and during a lift.
Lose Excess Weight: According to the National Health Service of the United Kingdom, being overweight weakens pelvic floor muscles and increases the risk of incontinence. Fatty tissues apply pressure to your bladder, reducing bladder control. Losing weight can help.
Eat More Fiber: If you regularly feel constipated, then you may not be getting enough fiber in your diet. Adding more fiber can help. Constipation can reduce bladder control by forcing you to strain when you poop
Reduce Caffeine Intake: Caffeine irritates the bladder, and it could make incontinence worse. Coffee is particularly bad for bladder control. However, many people experience better bladder control after cutting down on fizzy drinks, tea, energy drinks, and even hot chocolate.
Reduce Alcohol Consumption: Alcohol is a diuretic, which means it makes you urinate more frequently. Reducing alcohol consumption can help.
Drink More Water: Drinking more water may seem counterintuitive to helping with bladder control issues. That’s why many people with bladder control issues avoid drinking more fluids. However, not drinking water can increase the risk of constipation and worsen bladder control issues. Drink more water to see if it helps.
Avoid Problem Foods: Spicy and acidic foods can make bladder control issues worse. They irritate the bladder, leading to leaks and other issues.
Scientific Evidence for UTI and Bladder Control Supplements
All UTI and bladder control supplements claim to help with UTIs and bladder control. However, not all supplements contain science-backed ingredients proven to help. Below, we’ll summarize some of the scientific evidence supporting the most popular UTI and bladder control ingredients.
Cranberry is the world’s best-known natural UTI remedy. Cranberry contains ingredients that have been genuinely shown to help with UTIs, including proanthocyanidins (PACs). However, you would need to drink a very large volume of cranberry juice to get a sufficient concentration of PACs. That’s why many people take cranberry or PAC supplements instead.
In this 2016 study, researchers found cranberry juice helped some women treat UTIs, although it was less effective in other women due to physiological differences. That’s why many cranberry studies on UTIs come to different conclusions: people are built in different ways, and cranberry juice could help some people solve UTIs but not others.
Cranberry contains a specific type of proanthocyanidins called A-type proanthocyanidins. This active ingredient prevents the adherence of bacteria to the bladder wall. When you drink cranberry juice, this active ingredient could help release E. coli bacteria that cause your bladder infection and UTI, speeding up your body’s natural healing processes.
In this 2013 study, researchers reviewed over a dozen trials on UTIs and cranberry juice. Researchers found cranberry “reduced the risk of UTI by 26%” across all studies, suggesting that cranberry juice could be effective in preventing UTI recurrence in generally healthy women. However, researchers cautioned that more studies were needed to verify these findings.
D-mannose is another popular ingredient in many UTI and bladder control supplements. D-mannose isn’t an exotic ingredient: it’s a simple sugar. However, it appears to hinder bacteria adhesion to the urothelium, reducing the risk of UTI infection and helping clear existing infections.
In this 2016 study, researchers described D-mannose as a promising support ingredient for acute urinary tract infections in women. Researchers analyzed the effects of D-mannose on a group of participants, finding D-mannose was an effective protective agent against UTIs when used over a six-month period. In a similar study comparing D-mannose versus other UTI protective agents, researchers concluded that D-mannose appeared to be protective for recurrent UTIs versus a placebo, even having “possibly similar effectiveness as antibiotics” for targeting UTIs. Researchers also found D-mannose was well-tolerated with minimal side effects.
Lindera root is a popular herbal medicine ingredient for treating UTIs in women, and it’s found in many popular UTI supplements listed above. In this study, researchers examined the effectiveness of lindera root (Lindera aggregate) extract, which is particularly popular in traditional Chinese medicine. Researchers found some small evidence suggesting lindera root extract could help, although there are few large-scale studies on the ingredient overall.
Could horsetail extract help with UTIs? According to Kaiser Permanente, horsetail extract has been traditionally used for urinary tract infections. The ingredient may relieve UTI symptoms by increasing urinary volume and helping to flush bacteria out of the urinary tract.
Lingonberry isn’t as well-known as cranberry. However, some UTI remedies involve the use of both ingredients. In this study, for example, researchers found a beverage containing a combination of lingonberry and cranberry led to a 20% reduction in the risk of a UTI.
Finally, some supplements above contain a proprietary formula called Cratevox, which is made from Crataeva nurvala stem bark. Cratevox has been proposed as a way to help with urinary incontinence (UI), storage of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS), and overactive bladder (OAB), among other issues. It’s not designed for UTIs. In this study, researchers gave 150 participants a formula containing Crataeva nurvala stem bark extract, finding a significant reduction in incontinence symptoms versus placebo.
Overall, there are certain ingredients, herbs, plants, and other natural extracts that could help flush UTIs and support bladder control, among other benefits. Many of these ingredients are backed by significant scientific evidence, including peer-reviewed research and double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trials.
Side Effects of UTI and Bladder Control Supplements
Studies show UTI and bladder control supplements are safe to take when using normal dosages and following the recommended instructions.
Per FDA regulations, UTI and bladder control supplements must use ingredients and dosages that are generally recognized as safe (GRAS). That means these ingredients have been shown to be safe for most people to take in appropriate doses.
However, some studies show D-mannose, one of the most popular UTI supplement ingredients, can increase the risk of diarrhea in a small number of patients.

However, research shows you need to drink an extremely large volume of cranberry juice to get an adequate concentration of PACs to wash bacteria from your body.
Q: How can women prevent UTIs?
A: Women can prevent UTIs by urinating when they feel the need to urinate, wiping from the front to back after using the bathroom (to prevent spreading bacteria from the anus or vagina into the urethra), avoid using douches or feminine hygiene sprays (as they can irritate the urethra), taking showers instead of sitting in baths, wearing cotton underwear, avoiding tight-fitting clothes, drinking more water, peeing after sex, avoid the use of spermicides, and using tampons instead of pads during menstrual periods.
Q: What causes UTIs in men?
A: Men can develop UTIs because of urinary stones or an enlarged prostate, both of which obstruct the flow of urine and cause a urinary tract infection.
Q: Can drinking more water relieve UTI pain?
A: Yes, drinking more water can relieve the pain associated with a UTI.
Q: What is the urinary tract?
A: The urinary tract is a part of your body located in your lower abdomen that removes waste and extra fluids from the body by filtering the blood and creating urine. A: The lower part of your abdomen contains muscles and ligaments stretching from the pubic bone to the end of the backbone. When you have firm, supportive pelvic floor muscles, they support the bladder, womb, and bowel. Over time, these muscles can weaken, leading to incontinence and poor bladder control.
Q: Can pelvic floor exercises help with bladder control?
A: Yes, the right pelvic floor exercises are a proven way to help with bladder control. Many experts recommend Kegel exercises, for example, to strengthen the pelvic floor and improve bladder control.
Q: What are the main causes of poor bladder control?
